These new mountains of the North, shaped by human hands, have become a discovery ground where outdoor adventures, artistic richness, and mining memories intertwine.

Destination Terrils is a cross-border European project aimed at promoting the natural and cultural wealth of the Franco-Walloon mining belt from Charleroi to Béthune. The project plans, by 2028, to offer a wealth of activities and infrastructures that will allow diverse experiences across the territory: the establishment of a node-to-node walking network to explore the area over several days, enriched by artistic installations that enhance the visit, treasure hunts for the whole family, facilities for outdoor sports, and the organization of cultural activities! A cross-border collaboration to promote the terrils

Committed partners at the service of mining heritage

Destination Terrils II relies on close cooperation between many stakeholders dedicated to promoting and preserving the Franco-Walloon mining basin.

The project is supported by Eden 62, the Mission Bassin Minier, the Province of Hainaut, the Tourism House of the Mons Region, the Tourism House of the Pays de Charleroi, Centrissime, Cœur d’Ostrevent Tourism, the Community of Communes Cœur d’Ostrevent, Culture Commune, and Le Boulon. It also benefits from the support of several associated operators, including the City of Charleroi, Lens Liévin Tourism, Centropôle ASBL, the Department of Nord, and IDEA (Intermunicipal Economic Development and Planning of the Heart of Hainaut). Thanks to this cross-border collaboration, the terrils have become places of discovery, exchange, and unique experiences for all.
